A Partridge In a Pear Tree Cocktail (Spiced Pear Cocktail)

I enjoy a good cocktail over the holidays. I drink a lot less these days, but I think calories and a little alcohol don’t count over the holidays. This A Partridge in a Pear Tree cocktail is a spiced pear cocktail. It is somehow warm AND fresh with pears, winter spices, and ginger beer. The beauty of this cocktail is that it can be turned into a punch for a large crowd or a mocktail. The regular cocktail has spiced rum, but eliminating this doesn’t change the taste at all.

The holidays are here, and it is my favourite time of year. I have so many memories of growing up with beautiful decorations, fabulous food, and so many parties. A great memory was going to Brandon and spending time with Uncles, Aunts, cousins, and extended family. While the adults were making appetizers and drinks, us cousins were snooping under the tree. We were also watching Christmas movies and making memories. Horses, guinea pigs, and games were a big part of my happiness. There is one tradition that I do not continue, which is the Matheson family trifle. I will share more of that odd dessert another time (Sorry, Uncle Al and Auntie Val).

Now that I am an adult, I enjoy creating cocktails during the holiday season. Try my Bailey’s recipe or even a simplified version of RumChata-all the goodness without the preservatives. The holidays are meant to be filled with all the special things in your life. This includes a homemade spiced pear cocktail!

How to Make a Spiced Pear Cocktail (A Partridge in a Pear Tree Cocktail)

diced pears in pot with star anise and cinnamon
Pear Simple Syrup

Simple Syrup:

Take 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and simmer until the sugar is dissolved. Add 1 cinnamon stick, 1 star anise, 2 tbsp of sliced ginger, and 1/4 tsp of cloves. Add 2 diced pears and simmer for 20 minutes. Add vanilla—cool and strain.

Add ice to a glass. Add 1 oz. of pear syrup, 1.5 ounces of rum, 1 oz. of fresh lemon juice, and top with ginger beer.

Variations:

Mocktail: Omit the spiced rum, and you have a lovely mocktail that everyone will love. It still tastes like a lovely spiced pear cocktail!

Punch: 1/2 cup simple syrup, add 8 oz of spiced rum (optional), 3 cups of ginger beer, 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, and sliced pears and a cinnamon stick for garnish

Alcohol: Try using Grand Marnier, a dark rum, or bourbon.
